Alaska's commercial fisheries are managed using various regulatory areas (i.e., districts and sections). This data set defines the current valid districts that may be used in commercial salmon fisheries in 2020. This data set should NOT be used for navigation or for determining compliance with ADF&G Commercial Fishing Regulations. Please consult the ADF&G Salmon Commercial Fisheries Regulations for the official definitions of regulatory boundaries.
NOTE: These data attempt to depict boundaries as used for management during a specific time period. In some cases, boundaries used in practice may differ from those described in regulations, reports, maps, and other aids.

Salmon District Attributes
This data quality report applies to the commercial salmon district polygon features and associated attributes published in the PVB_BristolBay_Districts data set.

PVB_BristolBayDistricts
District boundaries were created based on the Alaska Fish and Game Laws and Regulations in ArcGIS Pro.
The source data for the coastline was the 2018 Mean High Water (MHW) coastline data from the National Ocean and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) that is in the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). The NHD is available for download here: https://www.usgs.gov/core-science-systems/ngp/national-hydrography/national-hydrography-dataset?qt-science_support_page_related_con=0#qt-science_support_page_related_con For Mean Low Low Water coastline the Office of Coast Survey Seamless Raster Nautical Chart Services was used to digitize the MLLW line for certain boundaries. The map service can be accessed here: https://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/data/gis-data-and-services.html#seamless-raster-nautical-chart-services
A working water polygon created by erasing the NHD coastline and land was first created. This was used as the base layer for creating district boundaries.

Togiak district polygon was modified to exclude 500 yard buffers from anadromous stream mouths.
Alaska Fish and Game Regulations restrict commercial fishing within 500 yards of a stream mouth and the Togiak district and section polygons were modified to to depict this around known anadrmous streams.
